One of the most important things to choose for your website is your domain name.

It is (in simple language) your website address.
This determines how people will find your website!

Here are some important things to consider:

1. Keep it easy to remember
   • Consider the spelling, the easier to spell - the better the chances people will type it right
   • Using of hyphens and numbers: people tend to forget them altogether, or where they are
   • Using ".com", ".co.za" etc.
2. Keep it short
   • The longer the domain name, the bigger the chance that people won't get it right.
   • You may want to market your website on business cards, or car signage where space is limited.
   • Your domain name will effect your email address to as it will form part of your email address (name@domain.com)
3. Keyword rich
   • When you searching for something on Google, you type the keyword it. One of the first sites that will come up will most probably be "keyword" you just type .com (or .co.za) So if you can fit in some keywords in your domain name - it's a big plus!

These are not cast in stone… but it's something to remember and consider before choosing a domain name.

One more thing that is most important to add at this point… When purchasing a domain name - make sure the Registrar of the domain is in YOUR company/name and not your web-designer/company or hosting company. Should you wish to change hosting or web designer one day - you want to have all the legal right to the domain name you have chosen and build up!
